A Platform for Dialogue and Partnership

The meeting was opened by Dr. Jörg Podehl, Head of GIRT Düsseldorf, who welcomed the guests and emphasized the long-standing economic and cultural ties between Germany and India. In his opening remarks, Dr. Podehl highlighted Indias way from near bankruptcy in 1990 to boom economy in 2025. He expressed his hopes for an EU-India FTA at the end of the year.

Keynote by the Consul General of India

A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Ms. Shuchita Kishore, Consul General of India in Frankfurt, who spoke on the topic: “Indo-European Business Outlook – Towards Free Trade in 2026?”

Her presentation offered valuable insights into the evolving trade dynamics between India and the European Union, the potential of a future free trade agreement, and the strategic opportunities for businesses on both sides. The keynote sparked a lively and engaging discussion among attendees, reflecting the strong interest in closer economic cooperation. Ms. Kishore gave insight into the challenges for negotiations about the FTA as e.g. Quality control orders, CBAM and other trade barriers.
